| Band's Comments | Lyrics | |
| Billy: "The basic thing is just fuck everybody. It's that feeling where no one understands: "Who the fuck are my friends? Fuck you. Fuck everybody. Fuck everything." It's just that thought -- pure frustration.
The tendency of most people is to be lazy and not pursue their dreams, to let life slip by. That's why people freak out when they're 40 and start buying Porsches. That's pretty indicative of what's wrong with everything. How can you live your life like that? It doesn't mean, "Form a rock band." It just means do something. Stop living vicariously through something else. Although I suppose if everybody did that, I'd be out of a job." D'Arcy: "I think Billy has always had unrealistic expectations about people getting where we're coming from. The fact is, most people aren't going to get it. You can't expect people to get everything all the time. It's hard enough just to communicate." Billy: "I mean it in a nice way. I really do. I mean it with compassion. But 'fuck off,' you know? I don't know what else you can expect from somebody but to be as honest as they can be. That's all I would ever ask from anybody else. There are bands out there...I don't like their music, but I respect them. To me that's more important." (huh 95)
Billy: "And with 'disconnection', we're talking about different levels of existence here, like in high school. I'd sit and look at that fuckin' clock and think 'I'm not gonna make it! I can't make through the rest of this day - I'm gonna freak out, I'm gonna fuckin' strangle this teacher, I'm gonna fuckin' shoot this guy next to me!' Well how do you get through that? You just turn yourself off. How do you get through, like, your fuckin' parent beating you over the head? You just shut it off". |
